With acquisition, West Virginia system changes leadership

Elkins, W.Va.-based Davis Health System, a network of 17 hospitals, including three hospital affiliates that joined Charleston, W.Va.-based Vandalia Health last year, is making various leadership changes.

On July 29, the system confirmed several leadership changes in June to Becker's, including the retirement of president and CEO, Vance Jackson.

"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Vance for his 10 years of service to the organization and wish him all the best in his future endeavors," a statement said.

DHS also welcomed back Mark Doak, former CEO of the organization, who returned as interim president.

"We are confident that his return will ensure a seamless transition and continue to drive our organization towards excellence," the system statement said.

DHS officially joined Vandalia Health in December 2023. Vandalia formed in 2022 through the merger of Mon Health System and CAMC Health System.

The recent leadership changes are part of what DHS described as ongoing efforts to ensure that DHS and Vandalia "remain at the forefront of healthcare innovation and quality care."

DHS confirmed to Becker's that other leadership transitions included Kathy Sturm, RN, former chief nursing officer, and Jon Steen, former vice president of human resources.

"Leadership changes within our organization were made as part of our ongoing efforts to align our strategic vision and goals with the evolving needs of our business and community," a spokesperson for the health system said. "We are in the process of recruiting to replace these positions, as well as the president of Davis Health System, as it is important to have local leadership who are invested in the community that we serve."

DHS includes Davis Medical Center in Elkins, Broaddus Hospital in Philippi, W.Va., and Webster Memorial Hospital in Webster Springs, W.Va.
