Stephen Gildea, CEO of Tyrone (Pa.) Regional Health Network, formerly known as Tyrone Hospital, has resigned from his post, according to an Altoona Mirror report.
Chuck Banas, vice president of the Tyrone Regional Health Network board, did not provide details about the resignation to the Altoona Mirror. However, Mr. Banas did tell the publication Mr. Gildea's decision to resign is "based on some personal things."
Mr. Gildea has served as CEO of the hospital since 2009. During his tenure, the hospital emerged from bankruptcy, according to the report.
Prior to taking on the CEO role, Mr. Gildea worked with the hospital's information technology department.
Mr. Gildea's resignation comes amid the hospital's move to become a member of Penn State Health, a nonprofit entity to contain the health system formed by the planned merger between Penn State Milton S. Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center and PinnacleHealth System in Harrisburg, Pa.
It also comes after Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf (D) line-item vetoed supplemental funding for hospitals, including Tyrone Hospital. According to the Altoona Mirror, Mr. Gildea had expressed concern about the line-item veto, but it is unclear if those concerns were a factor in his resignation.
