State-by-state breakdown of 57 CEO resignations in 1st half of 2018

Becker's Hospital Review reported 57 hospital and health system CEO resignations in the first half of the year.

Illinois and New York have seen the highest number of CEO resignations in 2018 so far, with five resignations apiece.

California, Colorado, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Wyoming all saw only one CEO resignation each.

Here is a state-by-state breakdown of the resignations.

Arkansas (4)

Peter Savoy, CEO of Eureka Springs (Ark.) Hospital, resigned for a new job opportunity in May.

Flagstaff-based Northern Arizona Healthcare President and CEO Rob Thames resigned March 26.

Bob Trautman, CEO of Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton, Ark., resigned June 26.

Salem, Ark.-based Fulton County Hospital CEO Charles Willet departed July 1.

California (1)

Jeffrey Kepple, MD, CEO of Plumas District Hospital in Quincy, Calif., is departing at the end of 2018.

Colorado (1)

Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Penrose-St. Francis Health Services CEO Margaret Sabin resigned March 16.

Florida (3)

Crystal River, Fla.-based Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center CEO Austin Brown is departing for a new role at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg (Fla.), effective April 20.

Panama City, Fla.-based Bay Medical Sacred Heart CEO Steve Grubbs resigned, effective Feb. 19.

Mark Robinson, CEO of Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, Fla., stepped down to take on a new role.

Georgia (2)

Jessica Long, CEO of CHI Memorial Hospital Georgia in Fort Oglethorpe, resigned, effective April 6.

Darren Pearce, BSN, CEO of Navicent Health Baldwin in Milledgeville, Ga., resigned after serving in the role for a little over three months.

Illinois (5)

Kenny Boyd, president and CEO of McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Ill., is resigning.

Joan Coffman, president and CEO of HSHS St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, Ill., resigned, effective July 13.

Chicago-based Presence Health President and CEO Michael Englehart resigned, effective March 30.

John Kessler, president and CEO of Salem (Ill.) Township Hospital, resigned March 5.

Peggy A. Sebastian, president and CEO of HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon, Ill., resigned Feb. 19.

Iowa (3)

David Brandon, president and CEO of UnityPoint Health-Dubuque (Iowa), resigned, effective June 1.

Kirby Johnson, CEO of Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, Iowa, departed for another job April 1.

Britt, Iowa-based Hancock County Health System CEO/Administrator Jeff Stampohar resigned, effective Jan. 26.

Kentucky (3)

Somerset, Ky.-based Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital CEO Tim Bess resigned March 5.

C. Todd Jones, president of Baptist Health Richmond (Ky.), resigned, effective Jan. 26.

Cincinnati-based The Christ Hospital Health Network President and CEO Mike Keating is departing later this year.

Louisiana (1)

Slidell (La.) Memorial Hospital CEO Bill Davis decided not to renew his contract when it expires at the end of 2018.

Maryland (1)

Cheverly, Md.-based University of Maryland Capital Region Health President and CEO Neil J. Moore stepped down, effective June 2018.

Massachusetts (1)

Greenfield, Mass.-based Baystate Franklin Medical Center President Cindy Russo resigned, effective Jan. 12.

Michigan (3)

Tom Mee, BSN, president and CEO of McLaren Greater Lansing (Mich.), resigned.

William Russell, CEO of Three Rivers (Mich.) Health, resigned.

Carson City, Mich.-based Sparrow Carson Hospital's President and CEO Matthew Thompson left his post just 10 days after CMS threatened to revoke the hospital's Medicare funding over infection control concerns.

Minnesota (1)

Kyle Rasmussen, CEO of Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, Minn., tendered his resignation in January.

Mississippi (2)

University of Mississippi Medical Center-Grenada CEO Don Hutson tendered his resignation in February.

Merit Health Natchez (Miss.) CEO Eric Robinson resigned for a new position in Texas, effective March 29.

Missouri (1)

Lauri Tanner, president and CEO of Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital in Maryland Heights, Mo., resigned after the hospital board discovered the executives violated the hospital's paid time off policy.

Montana (2)

Ron Gleason, CEO of Mineral Community Hospital in Superior, Mont., tendered his resignation in May.

Livingston (Mont.) HealthCare CEO Bren Lowe resigned for a new job opportunity.

Nebraska (1)

Kearney (Neb.) Regional Medical Center CEO Larry Speicher stepped down from his role in January.

New Mexico (1)

Kelly Duke, CEO of Deming, N.M.-based Mimbres Memorial Hospital, abruptly resigned June 7.

New York (5)

Cooperstown, N.Y.-based Bassett Healthcare Network President and CEO Vance M. Brown, MD, resigned April 20.

Nathan Howell, president and CEO of Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg, N.Y., resigned for a new job opportunity, effective May 11.

Steven M. Scott, interim CEO of Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y., resigned.

Jennifer Sullivan left her position as CEO of Hornell, N.Y.-based St. James Mercy Hospital.

Robert Wolleben, CEO of Massena (N.Y.) Memorial Hospital, resigned.

North Carolina (2)

Asheboro, N.C.-based Randolph Health CEO Steven E. Eblin is resigning, effective Oct. 2.

Whiteville, N.C.-based Columbus Regional Healthcare System CEO Carla Hollis resigned for a job at new behavioral health and substance abuse hospital in Raleigh, N.C.

North Dakota (1)

Chris Wyatt, CEO of Cavalier County Memorial Hospital in Langdon, N.D., resigned April 20.

Oregon (2)

Chad Campbell, CEO of McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center in Springfield, Ore., resigned for a new job opportunity.

Portland-based Oregon Health & Science University Healthcare CEO Mitch Wasden resigned after a little over a year into his tenure.

Pennsylvania (1)

Justin Davis, CEO of Scranton, Pa.-based Moses Taylor Hospital and Regional Hospital of Scranton, resigned June 5.

Texas (4)

Shannon Brown, CEO of Huntsville (Texas) Memorial Hospital, resigned.

Bay City, Texas-based Matagorda County Hospital District CEO Steve Smith resigned, effective May 1.

Carlyle Walton, president and CEO of Killeen, Texas-based Metroplex Health System, resigned.

Gainesville, Texas-based North Texas Medical Center CEO Chris Zeringue resigned.

Washington (2)

Marylouise Jones, interim CEO of Western State Hospital in Lakewood, Wash., is resigning for a new job opportunity in the private sector.

Rand O'Leary, chief executive of Vancouver, Wash.-based PeaceHealth's Oregon region, departed April 20.

West Virginia (2)

Morgantown, W.Va.-based Mon Health President and CEO Darryl Duncan resigned, effective March 19.

Dottie Oakes, MSN, RN, interim CEO of Morgantown, W.Va.-based Mon Health, resigned.

Wisconsin (1)

Eau Claire, Wis.-based HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital President and CEO Julie Manas abruptly departed from her role.

Wyoming (1)
