Jacksonville, Fla.-based St. Vincent's HealthCare has named Michael Schatzlein, MD, CEO, effective Sept. 8, according to a Jacksonville Business Journal report.
Here are three things to know about Dr. Schatzlein.
1. Dr. Schatzlein, a heart transplant surgeon, comes to St. Vincent's from Nashville, Tenn.-based Saint Thomas Health, a hospital system that is part of St. Louis-based Ascension Health.
2. Dr. Schatzlein was president and CEO of Saint Thomas Health from 2010 until last month. He also was senior vice president/group ministry operating executive, providing strategic advice to the ministry market executives of Indiana and Tennessee. In his role at St. Vincent's, which is also part of the Ascension Health network, Dr. Schatzlein will continue this work, according to the report.
3. Dr. Schatzlein replaces former CEO Moody Chisholm, who suddenly left the position last March to take another job in Salt Lake City after a five-year run. Donnie Romine, who had served as interim CEO, will return to his previous position as COO with the arrival of Dr. Schatzlein.
