Lansing, Mich.-based Sparrow Health System confirmed that its CEO no longer works at the organization.
The health system confirmed in a news release that CEO E.W. Tibbs Jr. "is no longer employed by Sparrow Health System" and that board members will meet "in the near future to determine the timeline and next steps for replacement," according to the Lansing State Journal.
"Sparrow caregivers, physicians and volunteers remain focused on providing excellent care to our community as they have done for the last 123 years and will never waiver from that commitment," the news release said.
Mr. Tibbs was placed on paid administrative leave by Sparrow Health System last week after a woman filed a lawsuit against him and his former employer, Lynchburg, Va.-based Centra Health, accusing him of sexual misconduct. Sparrow Health System told NBC affiliate WILX 10 News it thoroughly vetted Mr. Tibbs during the hiring process and did not discover any allegations.
Mr. Tibbs served as chief executive of Centra Health for five years before resigning in October 2018 and moving to Sparrow Health System the following month.
Shortly after the lawsuit was filed, Centra Health issued an email to employees informing them the health system is working with a third party to investigate the claims made against Mr. Tibbs.
