Here are three things to know about Mr. Herwig and his departure.
1. He was appointed CEO in September 2013.
2. During his tenure at EPMC, Mr. Herwig "emphasized quality patient care, customer and patient satisfaction [and] fiscal responsibility," according to a news release. He worked alongside a community task force, employees and other volunteers to help secure the passage of the vote for the Wellness Center, and he established a strategic plan for the medical center to become a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital.
3. Diana Van Der Ploeg, president of the Park Hospital District Board of Directors, will temporarily take over CEO duties until the board determines its plan to select an interim CEO.
