Richard Gilfillan, MD, has been chosen to lead the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, CMS administrator Don Berwick announced today, according to an ANCOR report.
The Affordable Care Act tasks the CMI with testing "innovative payment and service delivery models to reduce program expenditures … while preserving or enhancing quality of care," according to the report.
Dr. Gilfillan accepted the job directing CMS' performance-based payment policy staff in August. Prior to joining CMS, he was a consultant for Geisinger Consulting Services.
