Harold Maurer, MD, chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, has announced he will leave his current position to take on a new role in the university.
On July 1, 2013, Dr. Maurer will become a professor in the UNMC Department of Pediatrics and chancellor emeritus. He will spend most of his time in his new position at the University of Nebraska Foundation, leading fundraising for the cancer center campus. The cancer center campus project will create space for cancer research and care.
Dr. Maurer has been chancellor of UNMC since 1998. During his time as chancellor, he set aggressive goals in research to make UNMC a national center of excellence.
Before becoming chancellor, Dr. Maurer was the dean of University of Nebraska's College of Medicine from 1993 to 1997.
