Florence, S.C.-based Carolinas Hospital System tapped Gary Malaer to serve as its new CEO, effective Jan. 1, 2017, according to WBTW News 13 report.

1. Mr. Malaer most recently served as CEO of Wuesthoff Medical Center-Rockledge (Fla.). The hospital named him to the helm October 2015 after joining as COO in April 2015.
2. During his tenure at Wuesthoff, Mr. Malaer helped improve patient experience and quality metrics, which led to a growth in a number of service lines, including robotic surgeries.
3. He earned a master's of business administration degree in health services management from the University of Dallas.
