California health system CEO to retire

B. Konard Jones will retire Dec. 31 from his role as president and CEO of Fairfield, Calif.-based NorthBay Health, with the former COO of Froedtert Health in Milwaukee to succeed him.

Mr. Jones is succeeded by Mark Behl, former executive vice president and COO of Froedtert. Mr. Behl stepped down from the system after three years in September. He arrived at two-hospital NorthBay in October, overlapping with Mr. Jones for a couple months before his retirement.

Mr. Jones joined NorthBay Health in 1995 and was promoted to president and CEO of the system in 2017. He announced his retirement in March.

"It's never easy to close such an important chapter in your life, but this is the right time and the right decision for me and my family," Mr. Jones said in an open letter shortly after the announcement. "Certainly the pandemic has taught us all lessons, and one I've learned is the importance of prioritizing the time we spend with loved ones."

NorthBay is the only independent health system in California's Solano County. It has been on a cost-cutting push since 2022 with a workforce reduction and also a change to its CFO role.
