Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health has reported net income of $265 million on revenues of $3.8 billion for the second quarter.
The figures compare with a net loss of $457 million on revenues of $3.5 billion for the same period last year.
Operating income for the 27-hospital system rose to $29 million for the quarter and to $117 million for the first half of the year.
Expenses remained a drag on operating income in the first six months of the year, rising 7.2 percent in the period to total $7.5 billion.
Supply costs were up 9.4 percent in the first half of the year, while salaries and benefits rose 6.3 percent to total approximately $3.5 billion.
"Purchased services increased $206 [million], or 10.1%, from the same period in 2022, primarily due to contract labor needs and increased volumes at medical foundations," Sutter Health added.
