Physicians dominated CNBC's 2010 list of the highest-paying jobs in the United States, with surgeons, anesthesiologists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, orthodontists and obstetricians and gynecologists making up the top five, according to a CNBC report.
The only job outside the healthcare industry that made the top ten was chief executive, with an average salary of $167,280 in 2009.
Surgeons earned the top spot with an average salary of $219,770 in 2009, according to government data. Anesthesiologists were second with an average salary of $211,759, followed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons at $210,710, orthodontists at $206,190 and ob/gyns at $204,470.
