California's healthcare worker retention payments to start in February

The California Department of Health Care Services anticipates issuing retention bonuses for hospital and skilled nursing facility workers in February, according to its website.

The payments are a result of a bill signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom June 30 to promote stability and retention in the state's healthcare workforce.

Retention bonuses, of up to $1,000, will be available to qualifying employees of hospitals, certain clinics that are affiliated with a hospital, or skilled nursing facilities and physicians who cared for patients in those facilities from July 30 to October 28, 2022, the California Medical Association said. More information about qualifications is available here

The California Department of Health Care Services, which is responsible for administering the payments, said payment distribution dates and payment return processes will be posted in the coming weeks on its website.
