Among the states where data was available, anesthesiologists in South Dakota had the highest annual mean salary for anesthesia specialists in the U.S. in 2018. The bureau calculated annual wages by multiplying the mean wage per hour by a "year-round, full-time" figure of 2,080 hours.
The bureau was unable to gather data for some states, including Oregon, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Montana, Mississippi, Hawaii, Alaska and New Mexico.
