Kaiser chief medical director of heart transplant retires after 2 decades

Dana Weisshaar, MD, an advanced heart failure and transplant cardiologist, has retired after serving as chief/medical director of Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara (Calif.) Heart Transplant Service for over two decades.

Dr. Weisshaar is an expert in cardiac amyloidosis, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, heart transplant, and restrictive cardiomyopathy. She is a professor at the KP Institute of Medical Educators and a clinical associate professor in the department of cardiovascular medicine at Stanford Medicine in Palo Alto, Calif.

She attributed her successful career to teamwork and said she was blessed to work with outstanding colleagues.

"The 'secret sauce' to outstanding patient care is to meet patients where they are and guide them with love and compassion through their journey," she said in an Aug. 21 news release.
