Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center signed a letter of intent to negotiate a lease agreement for 600,000 square feet of vacant space with the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
VUMC would use the space for a variety of healthcare services, according to a March 23 VUMC news release. The site was formerly the Global Mall at the Crossings in Antioch, Tenn.
The purchase will help VUMC expand healthcare access in the area, which has one of the lowest rates of adults who have had a routine health checkup, according to the release.
"Providing access to healthcare services closer to where our patients live and work is one of our core aspirations," C. Wright Pinson, MD, deputy CEO and chief health system officer of VUMC, said in the release. "We are excited about the potential of this property to become a focal point of the surrounding community while affording VUMC the opportunity to strengthen our presence in a growing and vibrant area of metro Nashville."
