Allentown, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Health Network, a 13-hospital system, has started construction on a new hospital and medical office building in Gilbertsville, Pa.
The new facility will be a "neighborhood hospital," according to a July 13 news release shared with Becker's. It will be significantly smaller than Lehigh Valley's other hospitals — at around 22,000 square feet — but will offer acute care, a full-service emergency room and a limited number of inpatient beds 24/7.
Patients requiring a higher level of care may be transported to other Lehigh Valley hospitals as needed.
The Health Center at Gilbertsville, the medical office building, will span 57,000 square feet. It will house the health system's physician group and a variety of specialties including primary care and pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, rheumatology, physiatry, cardiology, cardiac and nuclear testing, and rehabilitation. There will also be a lab on-site.
Both buildings are expected to open in fall 2024.
