Oregon Health & Science University's Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland has received a $16 million gift to establish a clinic for pediatric neuromuscular disorders.
Five things to know:
1. The $16 million donation is the largest private donation in the hospital's 98-year history, according to a Dec. 6 news release from the system.
2. The clinic, which will be established as the Ramberg Ford Pediatric Neuromuscular Disorders Center, will focus on multidisciplinary patient care, family support and clinical research.
3. Doernbecher Children's Hospital operates the only neuromuscular disorders program in Oregon, offering preventive and specialist care, genetic testing and counseling, and physical therapy.
4. The center will integrate many of these services into one clinic, expand its clinical trials program, increase family support resources and add staff members.
5. Cheryl and Allyn Ford made the gift in memory of Ms. Ford's brother, Douglas Ramberg, who died in 1965 from complications of muscular dystrophy, the release said.
