Portland, Ore.-based Legacy Health has completed the first phase of a $37 million expansion and improvement project for its Legacy Silverton (Ore.) Medical Center, which will bring an additional 21,000 square feet to the existing hospital.
The first phase of the project renovation involves improvements like the opening of an expanded emergency department and a new hospital entrance and patient drop-off area.
The ED now has 20 patient rooms and will offer capabilities including a trauma treatment bay, expanded rooms for trauma and cardiac patient care, and ample space for women's services . The ED is expected to begin seeing patients on March 18.
Other additions include a family waiting room in the Silverton Family Birth Center, a new helicopter landing pad for air ambulances, and a new "all faiths chapel" for reflection and prayer.
Silverton Hospital and Legacy Health came together in 2016 to improve healthcare service access, with Legacy Health pledging $58 million to focus on physician recruitment, a new medical facility, and equipment upgrades.
The hospital expansion was also supported financially by support of corporate and individual community donors and the Silverton Health Foundation board.
Phase two plans for the project are underway to meet a long-term goal of expanding healthcare services.
