Dayton Children's $110M behavioral health building hits construction milestone

Dayton (Ohio) Children's Hospital recently held a topping-off ceremony for its $110 million behavioral health building at the hospital's main campus.

The 113,000-square-foot, three-story facility, which began construction last May, will consolidate all acute care services into a single space, bridging the gap for inpatient and outpatient care.

Dayton Children's has seen 500 more psychiatry visits this January compared to January 2023, highlighting the need for expansion of mental health services.

"This new space will give us more resources to be nimble as our children's needs change," Kelly Blankenship, DO, associate medical chief for mental and behavioral health at Dayton Children's, said in a news release shared with Becker's. "We will have specialized spaces that allow kids with high acuity a private area, without blocking beds needed for other children."

The building is expected to open in the summer of 2025.

Dayton Children's is an independent, freestanding children's hospital that comprises two campuses in Dayton and Springboro (Ohio). It also has 15 care sites and treats more than 400,000 children across 20 counties in Ohio and Eastern Indiana.
