Children's Hospital of Philadelphia receives $125M gift

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has received a $125 million donation from Aileen and Brian Roberts and their family, marking the largest single gift in the hospital's 170-year history.

The donation will support the development of Roberts Children'sHealth, a new inpatient tower with more than 20 stories that will expand CHOP's capacity and modernize patient care. In addition to constructing the new tower, which is slated to open in 2028, the project will include a revitalization of CHOP's existing hospital.

Roberts Children's Health will offer diagnostic, treatment and patient experience innovations, including:

  • Diagnostic and treatment areas spanning more than 3 million square feet, with more than 30 procedure and imaging rooms dedicated to cardiology, neurology, and other specialties.
  • More than 700 private patient rooms, designed with integrated technology that connects to a child's electronic medical record, enabling real-time access to test results, direct communication with the care team, and interactive educational tools for families.
  • Enhanced family amenities, including a dedicated Family Amenities Suite with fitness, meditation, and entertainment spaces, as well as increased access to mental health resources.

"At CHOP, we are focused on finding answers to the toughest medical challenges so that every child has the chance for a healthier future," Madeline Bell, President and CEO of CHOP, said in a March 13 news release. "Roberts Children's Health will greatly enhance the hospital experience for our patients and their families, equip our staff with the latest innovations, and revolutionize how we provide care, all while continuing our long legacy of breakthroughs."
