Bethel U launches health sciences college through $20M donation: 5 things to know

Saint Paul, Minn.-based Bethel University has launched the Anderson Family College of Health Sciences with the help of a $20 million donation to provide healthcare education to future healthcare workers.

Here are five things to know:

1. The college combines Bethel's healthcare-related courses and departments from its College of Arts and Sciences, College of Adult and Professional Studies, and graduate school which comprise public and community health, counseling, applied health sciences, undergrad and post-baccalaureate nursing, medical sciences, nurse-midwifery, undergrad and graduate social work, its physician assistant program, and one of multiple pre-med pathways.

2. Barb and Rollie Anderson donated the $20 million to the college. Their initial investments will provide funding for new clinical spaces, with long-term investments providing cost stability and scholarships for students, regardless of financial need, according to an Oct. 10 news release.

3. Bethel needs $40 million total to fully launch the college.

4. "We have a lot of family members in the healthcare field," Ms. Anderson said in an additional quote shared with Becker's. "The work that's done in healthcare is a natural fit for expressing care. I see this as a place where our family can extend that kind of care. It’s a great opportunity for us to make a difference in the future for patients who are in a very vulnerable situation in their lives."

5. Bethel University is a faith-based institution that comprises more than 4,700 students from all 50 states with over 100 areas of study, according to its website.
