Coral Gables-based Baptist Health South Florida has made a deal to buy 25 acres of land from the city of Sunrise, Fla., to build a hospital, but Fort Lauderdale-based Broward Health is asking the city to delay Baptist Health's deal to allow it to submit a competing proposal, the Sun Sentinel reported Jan. 11.
Baptist's plan includes at least 100 beds, an operating room, an emergency room and space for more beds.
Broward said it wants to partner with Hollywood, Fla.-based Memorial Healthcare System to build a hospital on land it owns in a more central area of Sunrise, according to the newspaper.
Both Broward and Memorial are public health systems, bringing together "the best of both worlds" — the North and South Broward hospital districts, Broward Health's CEO told the Sun Sentinel.
Broward's plan would include about 150 beds and several ancillary medical services.
