CMS has announced the addition of 89 new accountable care organizations to the Medicare Shared Savings Program, bringing the grand total of Medicare ACOs to 424.
The 89 ACOs will participate in the fifth performance period of the MSSP, which begins Jan. 1, 2015. A few of the hospital- or health system-led ACOs announced Monday include CHI St. Luke's Health Network in Houston, Cleveland Clinic Medicare ACO, Lehigh Valley Health Network ACO in Allentown, Pa., and UMass Memorial ACO in Worcester.
2015 will begin with 405 ACOs participating in the Medicare Shared Savings Program and another 19 participating in the Pioneer ACO Program, covering more than 7.8 million people.
