University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center (Beachwood, Ohio). UH Ahuja Medical Center was the first hospital in the nation to receive LEED New Construction 2009 certification, boasting a LEED Silver certification. Its design includes water runoff reduction features in the landscape and helps increase onsite filtration of oils from parking surfaces. Its water-efficient plumbing fixtures are designed to reduce water use by 25 percent. This year, Practice Greenhealth gave UH Ahuja Medical Center its Chemicals Circle of Excellence Award for its sound chemical reduction policies and practices, and the hospital is committed to all six Healthier Hospitals Initiative Challenges.
