Cleveland Clinic Innovations. In the 16 years since its founding, Cleveland Clinic's commercialization arm has supported more than 3,400 inventions; issued more than 800 patents and 450 licenses; and produced more than 40 active spin-off companies. Cleveland Clinic Innovations uses its proprietary INVENT commercialization process to evaluate inventions. One notable spinoff company born out of CCI is Explorys, a big data management company that IBM acquired in 2015. Additionally, CCI operates two innovation centers focused on specific specialties: The Global Cardiovascular Innovation Center and the National Center for Accelerated Innovation, both multiorganizational centers based in Ohio.
