Sanford USD Medical Center (Sioux Falls, S.D.). Founded in 1894, Sanford USD Medical Center has grown to become the largest hospital in South Dakota. It has 4,000 employees and is the teaching hospital for the Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota.
Magnet-designated Sanford USD Medical Center offers comprehensive clinical services and a number of specialty centers, including cancer, sports medicine and women's health. Part of Sanford Health, an integrated health system with 43 hospitals, Sanford USD Medical Center is involved in many of the system's more than 150 open clinical trials.
In 2015-16, U.S. News & World Report ranked 545-bed Sanford USD Medical Center the No. 1 hospital in South Dakota. The publication also ranked the hospital among the top 30 in the country for gastroenterology and GI surgery and among the top 50 for urology. Healthgrades gave the hospital its Distinguished Hospital Award of Clinical Excellence this year as well.
