Since October 2005, Tom Fischer has led financial operations of Indianapolis-based Community Health Network as CFO, and recently, his work has put him among the top CFOs in the Indianapolis community.
In November, the Indianapolis Business Journal named Mr. Fischer the 2012 "CFO of the Year" for non-profit organizations. During his tenure, the seven-hospital system has added several new affiliated hospitals and clinical collaborations, and Community Health Network has also invested heavily in the community through new capital projects and expansions, like the $100 million expansion of Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.
"He draws great satisfaction from working essentially behind the scenes, doing his part to ensure that caregivers can give their best," Community Health Network CEO Bryan Mills said of Mr. Fischer in the report. "It's important to him that doctors, nurses and others are able to focus their attention solely on patients."
His current CFO position at Community Health Network was his first formal executive position at a hospital. Previously, he worked for his self-started advisory firm, Fischer Advisory Services, which helped healthcare organizations on strategic planning, mergers, acquisitions and investment banking.
Mr. Fischer also was a healthcare investment banker between 1984 and 1994. He worked at three firms in Chicago and New York, which is the source of his knowledge base of capital markets, according to the IBJ report.
