For the 14th consecutive year, nursing was rated as the most trusted profession in the Gallup poll for Honesty/Ethics in Professions in 2015.
In the latest poll, 85 percent of Americans rated nurses' honesty and ethical standards as very high or high, placing nurses 17 percentage points above any other profession. Rounding out the top five were pharmacists (68 percent), physicians (67 percent), high school teachers (60 percent) and police officers (56 percent).
"This expression of trust and confidence in nurses by the public is inspiring," Massachusetts Nurses Association President Donna Kelly-Williams, RN, said. "We are incredibly proud that patients and their families count on nurses when they are at their moment of greatest vulnerability and need. The public sees how hard nurses work and how seriously they take their responsibility to advocate for safe and effective care. Nurses are the most trusted voice in health care because they fight every day to protect the health of their patients and communities."
