The healthcare industry added 39,400 jobs last month, contributing to the nation's 292,000 new jobs in December, according to the most recent jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Within the healthcare industry, ambulatory healthcare services grew the most, by 23,400 jobs in December. Most of those came from physician offices (3,800), but outpatient care centers (3,500) and home healthcare services (3,700) also contributed. Hospitals added 12,300 jobs in December.
In total, healthcare added 474,700 jobs in 2015, according to the BLS. That's more than 2014 (309,000) and 2013 (159,700) combined. Healthcare added an average of 40,000 jobs per month in 2015, compared with an average of 26,000 per month in 2014, according to the BLS.
