Trump 'enthusiastic' about Dem's drug cost proposal: 4 things to know

Reps. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., and Peter Welch, D-Vt., on Wednesday met with President Donald Trump to discuss strategies for lowering drug costs, reports Kaiser Health News.

Here are four things to know.

1. HHS Secretary Tom Price and Redonda Miller, MD, president of The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, also sat in on the White House meeting.

2. Reps. Cummings and Welch shared a draft of a House bill that would allow the federal government to negotiate drug costs.

3. President Trump was "aware of the problem" of high drug costs and "enthusiastic" about tackling the issue, according to Rep. Cummings.

"He made it clear to us that he wanted to do something," Rep. Cummings said, according to KHN.

4. The congressmen said they gave President Trump and Dr. Price the bill to review and make comments. Rep. Cummings hopes to file the bill in two weeks, according to the report.
