Intermountain Healthcare Launches Transformation Lab

Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare, Xi3 and Intel have launched the Healthcare Transformation Lab in collaboration with technology companies Dell, CenturyLink, NetApp and Sotera Wireless.

The lab, located on the campus of Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah, will develop and evaluate innovative solutions for patient care. The lab already has four prototypes ready for display, according to the news release:

•    Patient room of the future. Interactive technologies will monitor patients' vital signs and rooms will be tailored to each patient with light, sound and entertainment.

•    3-D printing of medical devices. 3-D printers are producing prototypes of medical devices.

•    Hand washing sensor. Physicians and other staff members can wear a hand hygiene sensor like a watch to reinforce compliance.

•    Life detector. A device alerts providers to changes in patients' vital signs whether the patient is in or outside the hospital.
