CHI's Saint Clare's Hospital Sussex to Discontinue Inpatient Services

Saint Clare's Health System, owned by Denver-based Catholic Health Initiatives, has filed a certificate-of-need application with New Jersey to discontinue inpatient services at its Sussex, N.J., hospital, according to a Star-Ledger report.

The 78-bed Saint Clare's Hospital Sussex, which cares for roughly 12 inpatients daily, will still provide outpatient, diagnostic and emergency services, according to the report.

Hospital officials conducted two studies to show that eliminating its inpatient services would not negatively affect the county's residents. Fifty-five of the hospital's 167 employees will be impacted by the transformation, but according to the report, those employees will be offered open positions at the health system's other facilities or severance packages.
