The Textile Rental Services Association of America has updated its Hygienically Clean Healthcare Certification standards to refine best practices for the hygienic delivery of linens between commercial laundries and healthcare facilities via exchange carts.
TRSA members conducted dozens of tests to determine the microbial content of medical exchange carts to determine the safest techniques for their handling. As a result of the testing and consultations with launderers and professionals in clinical management and epidemiology, TRSA has refined the language of its certification standards to optimally convey the certification requirements for housekeeping, delivery, inspection, counting, restocking linen and other processes.
Doug Waldman, chairman of TRSA's board of directors and a member of the council said, "These updates document that best practices used by laundries processing healthcare linen verified through testing ensure the safety of patients and hospital and laundry workers. This is consistent with TRSA's history of quickly responding to and taking necessary action to reassure commercial laundry customers."
