SHEA announces international ambassadors to collaborate, reduce HAIs

The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America has chosen 18 international healthcare professionals to serve as the 2015 delegation of the International Ambassadors Program, which fosters international infection prevention and control efforts through education and collaboration.

"Encouraging dialogue on best practices in infection control and prevention on an international scope is critical," said Michael Klompas, MD, chair of SHEA's External Affairs Committee and associate hospital epidemiologist at Brigham and Woman's Hospital in Boston. "Programs like SHEA's International Ambassadors help facilitate getting the best and the brightest in infection control and prevention to collaborate on tackling the issues that face each country at a micro level."

This year's ambassadors hail from several countries, including Egypt, the Philippines, Nigeria and Japan. To see a full list of ambassadors, click here. The ambassadors are given a one-year membership to SHEA and access to Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology as well as a $3,000 travel award to attend one of SHEA's two annual conferences.
