Regional Medical Center in South Carolina Begins Pilot to Reduce Length of Stay

The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, S.C., is beginning a pilot project to reduce length of stay in its nephrology department, according to a Times and Democrat report.

RMC will hire a nephrology care coordinator to help reduce nephrology patients' length of stay, which is currently 8.14 days compared to 5.34 days in peer hospitals, according to the report.

An internal analysis found reducing length of stay by 20 percent and reducing kidney dialysis on the day of discharge by 50 percent could generate approximately $496,000 in yearly savings for the hospital.
