With the announcement of two new initiatives, the National Quality Forum has targeted reducing antibiotic overuse and improving care for advanced illness patients.
Here are eight things to know about the two projects.
• Over the next year, NQF's member group National Quality Partners will bring together public and private sector experts and leaders to collaborate on a common agenda for improving antibiotic practices.
• The initiative will aim to accelerate the adoption of programs that curb antibiotic overuse and encourage better practices, including enhancing quality measures to impact prescribing patterns.
• Representatives of NQP say the U.S. is currently at a tipping point between addressing the looming problem of antibiotic resistance and a disastrous alternative.
• On Nov. 19, @NatQualityForum is hosting a TweetChat from noon to 1 p.m. eastern time to discuss the program using the hashtag #ABXatNQF.
• The second initiative focuses on tackling the major barriers and corresponding solutions to expediting high-quality care delivery for patients with complex illnesses.
• Partners in the effort include the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care, the American Case Management Association, Anthem, Carolinas HealthCare System and Community Health Accreditation Partners.
• The initiative will focus on creating the meaningful metrics that reflect the needs of individual critically ill patients and are necessary for improving care, according to NQP representatives.
• On Oct. 29 from noon to 1 p.m., @NatQualityForum is hosting a TweetChat on the initiative using the hashtag #advancedcare.
