Following warnings and concerns over the ability to properly clean reusable duodenoscopes and endoscopes, the Food and Drug Administration has spoken up about another medical scope — bronchoscopes.
While the FDA has not reported any deaths due to infections transferred by unclean bronchoscopes, the organization did receive 50 medical device reports in 2014 that mentioned infections or device contamination associated with reprocessed bronchoscopes, prompting the investigation.
