Patient surveillance — including detecting and reporting changes in vital signs — may make a big difference in improving patient outcomes, according to a whitepaper published by patient monitoring services company Isansys.
The sooner healthcare workers recognize clinical deterioration or condition changes in their patients, the sooner the patients can be treated and protected from harms or errors, a task that can be assisted through the use of technology.
"The ideal patient monitoring solution can deliver continuous visibility into a patient's health status by translating the data obtained on a continuous basis into useful clinical knowledge through the use of automated decision support tools," according to the whitepaper.
The deeper knowledge gained using a patient monitoring solution may be able to help clinicians and nurses make more informed decisions.
Isansys recommends using a comprehensive remote patient monitoring program that can:
- Collect, transmit and analyze key biometrics and behavioral data
- Generate alerts when an intervention is needed
- Deliver meaningful information to a single page on the care team's secure web portal
Not only would such technologies improve patient outcomes, they could reduce costs by preventing patient deterioration, medical errors and readmissions, according to Isansys.
