The week of Jan. 24 to Jan. 30 saw influenza rates rise, including two flu-associated pediatric deaths, the first reported since December, according to the CDC.
The proportion of outpatient visits for flu-like illnesses rose to 2.2 percent nationwide, a tenth of a percentage point above the national baseline. Additionally, six of 10 U.S. regions reported instances of flu-related illness at or above their respective baselines. However, the proportion of deaths attributed to flu still remains below the system-specific thresholds of the 122 Cities Mortality Reporting System and the NationalCenter for Health Statistics Mortality Surveillance System.
