The following hospitals in Maine received top marks on patients' HCAHPS surveys for nurse communication.

At least 87 percent of patients at these five hospitals responded on the surveys that nurses always communicated well. In Maine, the average is 83 percent, which sits above the national average of 80 percent.

The figures are from CMS' Hospital Compare website and represent HCAHPS scores collected from October 2015 through September 2016, the most recent data available.

Note: Hospitals with fewer than 100 completed surveys were excluded from this list.

1. Millinocket Regional Hospital — 92 percent

2. Northern Maine Medical Center (Fort Kent) — 88 percent

3. Down East Community Hospital (Machias) — 88 percent

4. Calais Regional Hospital — 87 percent

5. St. Andrews Hospital (Damariscotta) — 87 percent
