Patient jumps to his death from window at California hospital

A 70-year-old man smashed a window on the eighth floor of Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, Calif., Tuesday evening and jumped to his death, according to The Fresno Bee.

Police say the patient used a chair to shatter the window and then crawled out onto a two-foot landing where he jumped. The patient fell four stories and landed on a platform outside of the hospital's maternity ward. He died shortly thereafter, according to the report.

"We are saddened by an unfortunate incident that occurred tonight at Community Regional Medical Center," the hospital said in a statement to The Fresno Bee. "Our thoughts are with the patient's family and out of respect for privacy, no further information will be released."
