Four House Committees Map Out Plans Against Healthcare Reform

Following the GOP-controlled House's vote to repeal the healthcare reform law, four House committees mapped out plans to investigate the reform law, pass malpractice reform, provide more choice in health insurance and reduce costs of insurance for small businesses, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee will examine how insurers could sell policies across state lines and ways to allow small businesses to band together to lower the cost of buying coverage.

The House Judiciary Committee will focus on reducing the cost of medical liability lawsuits and review the constitutionality of the law, especially the mandate to require all Americans to buy insurance or pay a fine.

The Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce committees will investigate the law's effect on jobs and how the administration has granted waivers for some companies to avoid new rules.

The House Appropriations Committee will try to starve the reform law by denying money for implementing some provisions.

Meanwhile, Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) has introduced legislation to make it easier to buy coverage across state lines, repeal parts of the reform law and question the constitutional authority for the law.
