All charges have been dropped against a physician arrested in April in connection with an alleged kickback scheme at the now-closed Sacred Heart Hospital in Chicago, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.
Venkateswara Kuchipudi, MD, was one of four physicians arrested for allegedly receiving payments for referring Medicare and Medicaid patients to Scared Heart. Sacred Heart owner and CEO Edward Novak and CFO Roy Payawal were arrested as well.
Prosecutors did not give a reason for dropping the charges against Dr. Kuchipudi. The charges were dropped the day before an indictment was expected, according to the report.
