West Tennessee Healthcare Cuts 10 Jobs, Offers Early Retirement

Jackson-based West Tennessee Healthcare has eliminated 10 positions in the last two months and offered 220 employees early retirement packages, according to a Jackson Sun report.

Many of the employees affected by the position eliminations were able to find other jobs within the system, according to the report.

Employees eligible for early retirement were notified April 14 and have until the end of the month to meet with human resources to discuss their options, according to the report. After meeting with HR, they have 45 days to accept or reject the offer. Packages include $900 for each year of employment for full-time employees; part-time employees would receive $400.

West Tennessee Healthcare, which employs 5,585 people, also reduced employees' paid time off by 50 percent, according to the report.

The system's president and CEO, Bobby Arnold, pointed to the lack of Medicaid expansion in Tennessee as the reason for the workforce reduction.
