Oregon Nurses Association and Medford, Ore.-based Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center reached a labor deal Friday, according to a Mail Tribune report.
The three-year contract agreement, reached with help from a federal mediator, runs through June 30, 2020, and covers nearly 900 unionized nurses at the hospital. It includes a 7 percent pay increase spread out over the life of the contract, and maintains the hospital's existing vacation and medical leave policy, according to the report. Additionally, the report notes, nurses agreed to go to staff meetings, regardless of whether they are scheduled to work that day.
Overall, both sides were happy with the labor deal.
"We feel like the hospital made great movement," ONA spokesperson David Baca told Mail Tribune. "Going into mediation, there was a lot of emotion. But we're very pleased with the outcome."
Paul Macuga, the hospital's chief people officer and a member of the hospital's negotiating team, echoed Mr. Baca, saying, "I think the agreement we reached is a very fair one. Asante is very pleased with it, and I think both sides worked extremely hard to get there.
"Ultimately, we reached an agreement that is good for the nurses, good for Asante, and most importantly for the patients we serve."
The contract agreement must still be ratified. Nurses are scheduled to vote on the labor deal as early as Monday, according to the report.
