Joint Commission launches online resources to prevent healthcare workplace violence

The Joint Commission has made available its Workplace Violence Prevention Resources as a "living library" online for healthcare organizations, healthcare workers and the general public.

Available resources include policies, procedures, guidelines, studies, whitepapers, toolkits and other materials covering topics related to workplace violence, from active shooter situations to bullying.

Healthcare workers are five times more likely to fall victim to assaults or violent acts than workers in all other occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. "As a result, it is critical that we share key resources with those in the healthcare community to help them prepare for and address, as well as hopefully prevent, this type of unfortunate situation from taking place," said Ann Scott Blouin, PhD, RN, executive vice president of customer relations at the Joint Commission.
