Value of healthcare acquisitions reaches record-breaking $356B this year

The value of U.S. healthcare acquisitions so far this year has reached $356 billion, which is a record high for the sector and already tops the $326.1 billion in healthcare deals announced in all of last year, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The total value of the healthcare deals announced so far in 2015 is impressive across all sectors, as it is larger than the highest full-year total for any sector since 1999 when telecom acquisitions totaled $462 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal, which cites a Dealogic report.

There have been a number of major transactions in the healthcare sector this year that have helped push the total deal value to unprecedented levels, including Anthem's acquisition of rival health insurer Cigna, which was announced last week.
