Bowie (Texas) Memorial Hospital, which closed nearly four months ago, is still working to finalize a sales contract, according to the Times Record News.
Bowie Memorial closed last November after voters nixed a ballot measure that would have saved the facility through the creation of a new hospital district. The hospital entered negotiations with a Houston-based company last December, but the deal fell through less than a month later. With resources dwindling, hospital authority directors accepted a $1.5 million bid from Hasan Farid Hasmi, MD, for the purchase of Bowie Memorial.
The deal was originally expected to be complete March 4, and the hospital authority board had a meeting scheduled Friday to consider the sale contract. However, that meeting was cancelled due to an unresolved question about the bidder's Medicare provider status.
Bowie Memorial CEO Lynn Heller told the Time Record News she is confident the issue will be resolved and the deal will move forward.
Ms. Heller said the board will meet this week to vote on the agreement.
