High Point (N.C.) Regional Health System and University of North Carolina Health Care in Chapel Hill have agreed to form a strategic partnership following unanimous approval by both organizations.
In February, HPRHS announced it would search for a strategic partner and issued a request for proposal. UNC Health Care was selected by HPRHS' board of trustees.
Under the terms of the letter of intent, anticipated to become binding in early 2013, UNC will provide $150 million for capital improvements at HPRHS and $50 million for the establishment of a newly-formed community health fund, according to the release. UNC Health Care plans to maintain the current management of HPRS through local leadership. UNC Health Care does not plan on any layoffs or changes in pay rates or benefits of current employees of HPRHS. UNC Health Care will maintain HPRHS as a full-service, acute-care hospital.
